Laser erythema removal (CPL)
Effective and safe treatment is guaranteed through the use of pulsed CPL, a calibrated laser light. During the treatment, the light beam is absorbed by the haemoglobin in the blood vessels, this energy is transformed into heat energy, which in turn causes strong vasoconstriction and thus a visible reduction in erythema.
This type of lesion is made up of numerous, small and dilated blood vessels, closely adhering to each other and together forming a homogeneous patch on the skin. The redness disappears in time or is permanent, and a dense network of capillaries is responsible for its formation. As a rule, erythema is most pronounced on the cheeks and décolleté, e.g. as a result of increased blood pressure, extreme temperatures or strong emotions.
The primary symptom of erythema is a marked dilatation of blood vessels, combined with increased sensitivity to skin care products. The changes are exacerbated by various external factors, then fade and recur after some time. If erythema is not treated, it can lead to permanent damage to the blood vessels and, as a consequence, visible redness of the skin, extension of the spots to a larger area or even the development of rosacea. In such a situation, a specialist consultation is very important, so we invite you to make an appointment.

To begin, the skin undergoing the procedure is cleansed. The patient is given special protective goggles and the therapist begins to apply the gel and, by applying the laser, closes the dilated blood vessels. The procedure takes between 10 and 20 minutes and results in photocoagulation of the erythema. Under the influence of the laser treatment, it shrinks and overgrows, so that the skin gradually regains its natural appearance. After the treatment, its surface may be slightly heated and reddened, requiring cooling with cold compresses. At most, these symptoms last from a few to several dozen hours. Some patients also experience sensitivity to touch, burning, a warm sensation, swelling and partial discolouration of the skin. After laser therapy, it is essential to use sunscreen, avoid hot baths and excessive exercise, and refrain from using a solarium, sauna or drinking alcohol. All these factors cause the blood vessels to dilate.
The first treatment is preceded by a consultation , at which we will discuss the treatment in detail and contraindications to the treatment.
- it is recommended that the patient is well hydrated
- aspirin and other blood-thinning substances should be avoided
- your skin should not be tanned or treated with self-tanner
- important – alcohol should not be consumed 24 hours before and after the treatment
- the skin should be clean – no creams or lotions should be used
- the skin is cleansed
- the patient receives protective glasses
- ultrasound gel is applied
The procedure is painless, however the patient may feel warmth and/or a slight burning sensation. To reduce discomfort, the device head is cooled during the procedure. The application of the gel may be unpleasant due to the possibility of feeling cold. Depending on the area on which the treatment is carried out, it can last from about 20 to 30 minutes.
After the treatment, the sensations may be similar to those after a strong sunburn/light sunburn. The skin may be red and heated, and there may also be a burning sensation, which is why we apply cold compresses to the treatment area. The tenderness and swelling of the treatment site may last from a few hours to a few days. With proper healing, the recovery time is approximately three days.
- The skin should be treated gently until 2 – 3 days after treatment:
- special care for cleanliness and hygiene of the treatment area
- wash with soap-free gel, alcohol-free tonic or clean water
- avoid hot baths
- dry gently, do not rub, do not irritate in any other way
- the use of soothing and regenerating creams is recommended. 2 – 3 times a day
- Alcohol consumption is forbidden for a few days after the treatment
- For a period of 4 – 5 days physical exercise, sauna and solarium are not recommended.
- The use of exfoliating cosmetics is prohibited for 2 weeks after the treatment.
- For 4 weeks after the treatment, sunbathing is forbidden; the use of creams with SPF+50 or more is recommended.
- Vitamin C 1000 Plus and vitamin E supplementation is recommended to promote healing and collagen remodelling (this also protects against the formation of hyperpigmentation).
Rare complications following the procedure may be:
- redness and swelling – symptoms occurring immediately after the treatments, which should resolve spontaneously after a few hours to a maximum of a few days
- bruising or burning of the epidermis – changes that may occur in the case of very sensitive skin, darker complexion or tanned skin
- dryness and flaking of the skin – symptoms that may persist for several days after the treatment
Laser therapy in this form reduces vascular lesions and hyperpigmentation, as well as improving skin tone and texture. The ability to shrink pores, while tightening and thickening tissues, is not insignificant.
When the effects of laser erythema removal become apparent depends primarily on the nature and volume of the lesion. At the initial stage, the erythema is shallow and mild in nature, which means that it can even be removed in a single treatment usually lasting a few to several minutes. The procedure is not particularly painful for the patient.
On the other hand, in the case of extensive, intense and deep lesions, it is recommended to perform several repetitions at intervals of several weeks. It is worth noting, however, that even in this case, a significant reduction in erythema can be observed after the first treatment session. It is usually sufficient to undergo the treatment 3-6 times.
Laser treatment of erythema is a specialised aesthetic medicine procedure carried out by a qualified therapist. Due to the possibility of certain contraindications to the treatment, a consultation is necessary at the first stage to avoid possible complications during the treatment. Among others, laser erythema therapy should not be carried out in cases of pregnancy, epilepsy, cancer, implanted pacemakers, active skin lesions, vitiligo or a tendency to scarring. The procedure should also not be performed when the patient’s skin (in the treatment area) has a fresh tan or when the patient is using photosensitisers, e.g. vitamin A derivatives, certain antibiotics, St. John’s wort.
Successful erythema removal also involves sticking to the therapist’s recommendations after treatment. Above all, it is very important to avoid direct exposure of the skin to the sun and, in addition, to protect the skin with cosmetics with high filters every time you leave the house. In addition, for the first three days after the treatment, it is necessary to use a protective preparation prescribed by the therapist to promote skin regeneration. For the first 24 hours after the treatment, make-up should not be applied, and for 7 days the use of saunas, hot baths, intense physical exercise, consumption of alcohol and other products or activities that could cause excessive congestion or overheating of the skin should be avoided.
